If there’s been a big change in your family – a new job, a death, a divorce, or anything else stressful – be sure to tell your baby’s healthcare provider. You may not realize it, but that stress will affect your child.
Watch him for any of the following signs of anxiety:
- Changes in sleep
- Increased irritability
- Clingy or whiny behaviours
- A sudden increase in activity
Make him feel protected
If your child is suffering from anxiety, the best thing you can do is reassure him of your love and availability. You can’t shelter him from your own emotions or life’s ups and downs, but you can help him feel safe and protected. The good news is that his downturns should be short, and he’ll recover as everyone else gets back on track too. If not, talk to his healthcare provider.
